Galtee Honey Farm has a bee garden that is planted with all sorts of varieties that are useful to bees for both nectar and pollen sources.
For millions of years bees and flowers have lived together in symbiotic union. They are
interdependent. With this in mind we have over the years been developing the garden apiary
at Glengarra Wood so that a wide variety of bee plants are present to produce nectar and
pollen throughout the year. Flowers, shrubs and trees add a tremendous amount of interest
to the beekeeping enterprise and the study of pollen and bees foraging on these plants adds
a new dimension to our beekeeping research facilities. The Bee Garden is also attractive to
a huge range of other insects including other bee species, butterflies and moths. The
adjacent old woodland which includes nature trails and amenity areas open to the public
provides an ideal habitat for many species of birds and other forms of wildlife.
